Why AI Agents Still Need Human Setup (And That's OK)
There’s a paradox in AI right now.
We have agents that can write code, manage emails, and automate entire workflows. But setting up these agents? That still needs a human.
The Setup Problem
OpenClaw is incredibly powerful once it’s running. But getting there requires:
- Server configuration
- Security hardening
- API key management
- Network isolation
- Permission scoping
These aren’t things you want an AI doing unsupervised. Not yet.
Why Human Expertise Matters
1. Security decisions require context
An AI doesn’t know your threat model. Are you a solo founder with low risk tolerance? A startup handling customer data? A hobbyist experimenting?
Each needs different security configurations.
2. Mistakes are expensive
A misconfigured agent with access to your email and bank accounts is a liability. Human oversight during setup catches issues before they become disasters.
3. Trust is earned, not assumed
You shouldn’t trust any system - AI or otherwise - with full access on day one. Human setup creates appropriate boundaries.
The Future
Will AI eventually set up AI? Probably. But we’re not there yet.
For now, the best approach is human expertise for setup, AI automation for everything after.
That’s exactly what we do at SetupMyClaw. We handle the security-critical setup so your agent can safely handle everything else.
